Prosthodontics
Prosthodontics
Prosthodontics is a dental specialty focused on the diagnosis, treatment planning, and rehabilitation of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth and/or oral and maxillofacial tissues.
Our JHAH prosthodontic specialists are extensively trained to provide comprehensive care for patients who require prosthetic replacement of teeth.
They utilize advanced techniques and materials to restore and enhance the aesthetics, function, and comfort of patients’ smiles, aiming to improve their overall quality of life.
Additionally, prosthodontists collaborate closely with other dental specialists to achieve optimal outcomes for patients requiring complex treatment plans.
Dental Prostheses
Dental prostheses are artificial devices used to restore the function, integrity, and aesthetics of missing or damaged teeth or oral tissues.
Types of Dental Prostheses
Dental Crowns: Tooth-shaped caps that restore the visible portion of a damaged tooth.
Dental Bridges: Prostheses consisting of one or more artificial teeth anchored to adjacent natural teeth or dental implants to fill the gap left by missing teeth.
Dentures: Removable appliances used to replace multiple missing teeth. They may be partial dentures (replacing a few missing teeth) or complete dentures (replacing all teeth in one or both dental arches).
Dental Implants: Titanium posts surgically implanted into the jawbone that serve as artificial tooth roots, supporting crowns, bridges, or dentures.
The process of making dental prostheses
Consultation and Examination: The dentist examines the patient’s oral health and discusses appropriate treatment options.
Preparation: If necessary, the dentist prepares the natural teeth or oral tissues to accommodate the prosthesis.
Impressions: Impressions or molds of the patient’s teeth and oral tissues are taken using dental elastic materials or digital scanning technology.
Design and Fabrication: Using impressions or computer-aided design (CAD) software, dental technicians fabricate prostheses that match the patient’s unique oral anatomy.
Try-in and Adjustments: Before finalizing the prostheses, the patient tries them to evaluate fit, comfort, and aesthetics.
Placement: Once the prostheses are fabricated and approved, they are placed or attached to the patient’s natural teeth or dental implants.
Follow-up: Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor fit and function, address concerns, and make adjustments as needed.
