Dr. Al-Habbal earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and holds a Bachelor of Science from Duke University. He completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine, followed by specialized training in orthopedic sports medicine and knee surgery. He is a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

He previously served as an orthopedic surgeon at the Saudi Aramco Medical Services Organization before joining Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH). His extensive experience includes serving as an assistant team physician for the Houston Astros baseball team, the Houston Rockets basketball team, the University of Houston athletic programs, and multiple Houston-area high schools.
