What is Endocrinology?

If you suffer from diabetes, hyperthyroidism or other hormone disorders, our endocrinology, diabetes and metabolic diseases team is here to help, providing diagnoses, education and treatment. The endocrine system is made up of glands, which release hormones to control different functions in your body. When these hormones enter the bloodstream, they are transported to organs and tissues. If they are not working properly – for example, if there are too many, or not enough, of them – they can cause ill health such as thyroid, growth or insulin (blood sugar level) problems.

Our experts will take an in-depth look at a wide variety of symptoms to find out if you are suffering from a deficiency or excess of one or more hormones, and will then decide on long-term care management. Most endocrine disorders, including diabetes, mellitus, hypothyroidism and metabolic syndrome, will need lifelong care. We believe that the better we understand you on a personal and social, as well as a molecular, level, the better we can work with you to make your treatment as effective as possible.
